Dr Afzal Sohaib is a leading Consultant Cardiologist with a special interest in the management of heart rhythm disorders, such as atrial fibrillation (AF), and causes of palpitations, shortness of breath, and blackouts. He implants pacemakers and defibrillators and performs ablation procedures for heart rhythm disorders.

His NHS practice is at the Bart’s Heart Centre at St Bartholomew's Hospital in London, one of Europe’s largest specialist heart centres, and he is Clincal Lead for the heart rhythm service at Barking, Havering & Redbridge Unversity Hospitals, one of London's busiest Trusts. He is also an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer at Bart's and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry.

He graduated from the University College London in 2005 with a distinction and numerous prizes including the Betuel Prize for finishing second in the University of London Gold Medal Examination. After graduating he completed his cardiology training at leading centres in London including Hammersmith Hospital, the Royal Brompton Hospital, and Harefield Hospital.

He was awarded a prestigious Clinical Research Training Fellowship funded by the British Heart Foundation which funded his PhD at Imperial College London. Dr Sohaib’s PhD investigated how pacemakers improve symptoms in heart failure. He has published numerous articles in international peer reviewed scientific journals and regularly speaks at national and international cardiology meetings. He is author of the book "Decoding Cardiac Electrophysiology".

He enjoys teaching and training young aspiring cardiologists. He was President of the British Junior Cardiologists’ Association (BJCA) and was on the Council of the British Cardiovascular Society. You can learn more about his practice on www.drafzalsohaib.co.uk.
