Mr Giles Stafford is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip surgery, in particular, Young Adult and Sports Hip Injuries. He qualified in 1999 from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, followed by training by Bart’s and The London. He then completed an orthopaedic training programme at the North West Thames Foundation School (Imperial College London). Mr Hugh Apthorp is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon. Professor Venu Kavarthapu is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in Lower Limb Orthopaedic Surgery. He trained in Orthopaedic Surgery from South-East Thames Orthopaedic Rotation. Further fellowship training was obtained in specialized MIS (minimally invasive) and computer navigation hip surgery under the tuition of Dr Lawrence Dorr at the Arthritis Institute, and Dr Joel Matta at the Good Samaritan Hospital, Los Angeles, USA; hip arthroplasty at Guy’s Hospital, London and foot & ankle surgery at Royal Surrey County and Frimley Park Hospitals, Surrey.

Prof. Kavarthapu was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at King’s College Hospital, London in 2006. He runs a regional young adult hip surgery service, including hip arthroscopy and minimally invasive hip replacement surgery. He also heads a nationally recognized multi-disciplinary complex foot surgery service that undertakes corrective surgery required for foot deformities caused by diabetes.

Vipin qualified from the University of Bristol in August 1998 and completed basic surgical training in London on the Hammersmith Hospital Basic Surgical Rotation. Mr Arfan Malhi qualified from the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine London with distinction in the final MBBS examination. His basic surgical training was on the Kings College Hospital rotation. He then undertook a research post at the Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust before embarking upon higher Orthopaedic Surgical Training on the prestigious UCLH / Middlesex Rotation.

Sub-specialty training in primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty was undertaken during a near year long fellowship at the University of Manitoba Joint Replacement Group in Canada. This is an extremely high volume centre with in excess of 1400 joint replacements performed per year.

His Consultant career started at University College Hospital London before he was asked to join the team at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. There he very soon established a busy practice in Hip and Knee arthroplasty with a sub specialty interest in revision surgery whilst maintaining a trauma practice. He has a particular interest in arthroplasty in high body mass index (BMI) patients and has presented internationally on this topic in Europe and North America.

He quickly took up the role of Trauma Lead for the trust and then moved on as the Arthroplasty Lead. He then became Clinical Lead for Trauma & Orthopaedics at University Hospital Lewisham in April 2016.

He then moved on to his current post at Guys and St Thomas' NHS Foundation trust in 2018.
