Dr Sean Preston is a Consultant Gastroenterologist based at the Royal London Hospital, Barts Health, the UK's largest NHS Trust. He graduated from St Mary’s Hospital Medical School, Paddington in 1995. The majority of his postgraduate training was centred at Barts and the London NHS Trust (a major London Teaching Hospital), in addition to a year spent in Sydney as an Advanced Endoscopy Fellow, prior to his appointment as a Consultant at Barts in 2006.

 

His clinical practice includes the diagnosis and treatment of gastro oesophageal reflux disease (heartburn), Barrett's oesophagus, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, diarrhoea, constipation, bloating, in addition to diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy of the oesophagus, stomach and colon. He has a keen interest in gut health and gastrointestinal microbiota (bacteria, viruses and fungi) and uses both diet, pre and probiotics in the achievement and maintenance of optimal conditions within the bowel. Clinical consultations are structured to allow patients sufficient time to explain all their symptoms and to fully understand for the cause of their concerns.

 

His PhD, undertaken at Cancer Research UK, London, outlined the role of stem cells in gastrointestinal cancers and led to several significant publications in the field.

 

He is Director of Endoscopy at Barts Health and his endoscopic expertise relates to gastroscopy, colonoscopy and endoscopic ultrasound and he is an accredited colonoscopist for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme (requiring a rigorous accreditation process and continual audit of key performance indicators). He has written numerous key papers and book chapters on gastrointestinal cancer and continues his research in Barrett's oesophagus.

 

Dr Preston also featured in the 2013 Tatler Doctors Guide of Britain's top 250 consultants. He was President of the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Section of the Royal Society of Medicine from 2015-2017 and is currently Chairman of the Specialists' Committee for the Independent Doctors' Federation.

 

As a founding partner of London Digestive Health, within London Digestive Centre, he works within the framework of first class clinical team of other London Teaching Hospital Gastroenterologists, in addition to GI surgeons, Radiologists, Oncologists and a Dietician.

 

Dr Preston is also the Chair of Digestive Diseases and Renal Department at HCA Healthcare UK.

Dr Jonathan Hoare is a Consultant Gastroenterologist based in London. He has a special interest in reflux, swallowing and management of difficult gastrointestinal bleeding as well as the detection and treatment of early gastrointestinal cancer using endoscopic techniques.

Dr Hoare completed his undergraduate training at Cambridge University and St Mary's Hospital Medical School. He went on to complete a PhD as an MRC research fellow, focusing on viral hepatitis and gene therapy. Dr Hoare then trained in gastroenterology in North London and his first consultant post was at St Mary's Hospital. He also held the position of Head of Endoscopy at St Mary's Hospital and Imperial College Healthcare for 10 years.

Dr Hoare has an interest in medical education and he provides teaching on endoscopy nationally and internationally. His research interests include colonoscopy techniques and early detection and treatment of gastrointestinal cancer. Dr Hoare's was awarded the Marsha Dreyer research award by the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in 2015 for his research on coloscopy techniques.

Dr Adam Humphries is a consultant gastroenterologist and specialist endoscopist at St Mark's Hospital, Harrow, an internationally recognised centre of excellence for intestinal disorders and endoscopy. He is the Clinical Lead for Endoscopy and his sub-specialist interests include bowel cancer screening and prevention (nationally accredited bowel cancer screening colonoscopist), colonoscopy and polypectomy, gastroscopy, small bowel diseases, inflammatory bowel disease, video capsule endoscopy, trans-nasal endoscopy and double-balloon enteroscopy. Dr Humphries also leads the small bowel endoscopy service at St Mark's Hospital, a national referral centre and one of only a few sites in the UK that provides double-balloon enteroscopy for the diagnosis and treatment of small bowel diseases.

In 2007 Dr Humphries was awarded a Cancer Research UK Clinical Research Fellowship and subsequently gained a PhD in 2012 from University College London for his research into the biology of gastrointestinal tumours. He has published in prestigious, peer-reviewed scientific journals, presented work at a variety of national and international meetings and published a number of book chapters. Dr Humphries' current academic interests include bowel cancer prevention, evolution of pre-cancerous growths (polyps) within the gut and the diagnosis and treatment of small bowel diseases.

Dr Humphries qualified from Imperial College Medical School in 2002 and undertook his specialist gastroenterology training within London from 2005-2013. He then completed a fellowship in advanced and small bowel endoscopy at St Mark's Hospital before being appointed to the Consultant staff.

Mr Stephen Warren is a Consultant General, Colorectal & Laparoscopic Surgeon based in London, UK.
