Dr Anand Saggar is a Consultant Physician and Clinical Geneticist based in the South West Thames Regional Genetics Department at St George’s Hospital Medical School, working within a muilti-disciplinary team caring for 2.7 million within the region. He has a specialist interest in inherited kidney disease.

Dr Saggar gained his primary Medical qualification at the University of London in 1982, after which he undertook his basic and specialist training. After he completed his kidney fellowship with the University of London, Dr Saggar was appointed Consultant in 2000. Since his appointment, he has worked patients from a range of backgrounds that present a variety of health issues.

Dr Brennan's main areas of expertise are inherited cancer, cardiovascular disease, connective tissue disorders and endocrine genetics.

His interest in genetics started as a medical student in the 1980s when the medical speciality of clinical genetics was in its infancy. After a research degree studying genes in the developing heart, he completed his medical training and undertook postgraduate training in adult medicine and paediatrics before specialist training in Clinical Genetics.

Dr Brennan was appointed as an NHS Consultant in Clinical Genetics in 2002 with the Northern Genetics Service based in Newcastle upon Tyne. After opening a new satellite clinical genetics department in Middlesbrough, he was appointed to the role of Clinical Director of the Northern Genetics Service in 2008, managing a clinical and laboratory team providing genetics diagnostics for the population of North East England and North Cumbria.

Dr Brennan has been Clinical Lead for Cardiac and Endocrine Genetics for the Northern Genetics Service since 2003; he was Clinical Lead for Cancer Genetics 2002 to 2020.

A particular interest is the use of new technology and novel clinical pathways to improve diagnosis and management for people living with rare inherited disease. Between 2014 and 2018 he was Clinical Programme Director for the North East & North Cumbria NHS Genomic Medicine Centre, overseeing the introduction of whole genome sequencing into routine care as part of the 100,000 Genomes Project. He is engaged in a number of collaborative research projects, all of which are focused on improving diagnosis and treatment.

Dr Brennan is a keen and popular teacher and lectures to a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate audiences in the UK and overseas. He teaches genetics for a week each year at Newcastle University's Medical School in Malaysia.

Dr Melita Irving is a consultant and honorary reader in clinical genetics at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust. She trained in paediatrics and specialized in genetic conditions.

Dr Irving has wide experience in the diagnosis and management of a range of genetic conditions including chromosomal disorders, rare genetic symptoms, and conditions with an underlying genetic cause. Dr Irving sub-specialises in rare diseases of the skeleton. After completing her fellowship in skeletal dysplasia at the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia, Dr Irving has established multidisciplinary paediatric clinics in skeletal dysplasia and achondroplasia at Evelina London Children's Hospital where close monitoring and management services are offered to the affected patients. Dr Irving is actively involved in research and is the chief investigator for clinical trials in children with skeletal dysplasia aiming to develop new methods and improve the existing ones for the diagnosis of severe skeletal conditions. Dr Irving is the leading author of numerous peer-reviewed publications on various aspects of clinical genetics and is also the author of Human DNA Manual (Haynes).

Dr Irving is involved in teaching as well. She was the President of the Medical Genetics Section for three years (2016-2019) and is also vice-chair of the Royal Society of Medicine’s Ellison Cliffe Foundation. Dr Irving won the Genetic Healthcare Provider (GHP) Private Healthcare Award for 2019.
