Mr Erlick Pereira is a renowned and respected Consultant Neurosurgeon and Spinal Surgeon at the St George's Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where he founded deep brain stimulation and spinal cord stimulation services for movement disorders and pain. He has clinical interests in chronic pain, cancer pain, minimally invasive and complex spinal surgery, movement disorders, surgery following trauma, slipped disc management and treatment of trapped nerves. Mr Pereira uses advanced technologies such as microscopes, endoscopes, image guidance systems and stereotactic frames. His surgery is often minimally invasive and done asleep for patient comfort.
He studied psychology at Cambridge then medicine in Oxford before neurosurgery training there. He did a fellowship in orthopaedic spinal surgery at Guy's and St Thomas'. Mr Pereira is Reader in Neurosurgery at St George's, University of London and Visiting Professor at the University of Porto with research interests in wearable technology, AI, neuromodulation, electroceuticals and brain and spine computer interfaces for movement disorders, pain and spinal cord injury. His outstanding work has been recognised internationally, winning the American Association of Neurosurgical Surgeons WJ Sweet Award, Congress of Neurological Surgeons Ron Tasker Award and the Hunterian Professorship of the Royal College of Surgeons. He has published over 140 full peer-reviewed papers, two books and 30 book chapters including in Gray's Anatomy. He regularly presents internationally, appraises colleagues in the NHS and Harley Street and advises medical device companies.
Mr. Pereira lives in London. He recently gave up playing football due to injury but still enjoys cycling, reading, writing, teaching, films and classic cars.
