Mr Matthew Barry is a Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon, based at Southampton General Hospital, which he joined in 2017, and he also sees patients privately, including at The Portland Hospital. He previously worked at the Royal London Hopsital, and he was appointed consultant here in 1998. Mr Barry manages numerous conditions affecting children (aged from 0 to 17), including hip, knee and foot problems and those affecting the upper limb. His expertise includes the treatment of fractures and he is a specialist in trauma, and disturbances of the growth plate, limb length inequality, mal-alignment and non unions.
Mr Barry is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Medical Engineering at Queen Mary, University of London, and he has research interests in the mechanical properties of circular external fixators (Ilizarov and Spatial Frame) in the treatment of fracture non unions, mal unions and limb deformity. He teaches medical students and medical engineering students as well as lecturing on postgraduate courses in Trauma and Orthopaedics.
