Dr Alamgir Kabir is a consultant cardiologist, offering both NHS and private cardiology care. He sees a wide variety of cardiology patients including those with adult congenital heart disease, angina, coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease and heart rhythm problems. Dr Kabir is also a cardiology consultant at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre in Basildon, Essex. Alongside this, he trains junior doctors in cardiology and regularly lectures for professional exams.
He qualified from Guy’s and St Thomas’ Medical School in 1996. Later he trained in cardiology at St Bartholomew's Hospital, the London Chest Hospital and The Heart Hospital. Mirroring his extensive medical experience, Dr Kabir's academic achievements are not to be ignore—he furthermore has a PhD in ischaemic preconditioning from King’s College London. It is therefore no surprise that he has been published in numerous peer-reviewed journals and presented at international meetings.
Owing to his considerable experience, Dr Kabir has expertise in all areas of general cardiology and particularly in interventional cardiology. In addition, he has a profound interest in adult congenital heart disease and is the clinical lead for the local service in this area.
He also performs pacemaker insertions for patients with heart rhythm problems, carrying out around 500 coronary angiograms and 300 coronary angioplasties each year. His NHS base at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre in one of the busiest angioplasty centres in the country - performing around 3000 procedures a year.
As a consultant who is accredited in both cardiology and general medicine, Dr Kabir strongly believes in giving patients the time to discuss their medical problems, preferring to take a more holistic approach to his treatment. On a more personal level, his passions outside medicine are his family and the Korean martial art Kuk Sool Won, in which he holds a black belt.
