Professor Jonathan Waxman trained at University College and University College Hospital, London, in common with a number of other consultants practising at LOC. He was the recipient of several scholarships and prizes as an undergraduate and postgraduate. He is currently Professor of Oncology at Imperial College London and consultant to the Department of Oncology at Hammersmith Hospital, for whom he played the central role in the campaign to build the Hammersmith Cancer Centre.

He founded the Prostate Cancer Charity which will raise £20m in this current financial year. Prior to joining the Hammersmith Hospital, he was an Imperial Cancer Research Fund Research Fellow at St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

His current clinical and laboratory research focus is prostate cancer. He has written over 400 research papers and book chapters, has authored eleven medical books, one novel, a patient information book and a legal text book. He writes on healthcare policy for major newspapers.

Professor Angus Dalgleish studied medicine at University College London where he obtained an MBBS and a BSc in Anatomy. He is a Fellow of The Royal College of Physicians of the UK and Australia, Royal College of Pathologists and The Academy of Medical Scientists. After graduating and house jobs in London and Poole, he spent a year in the flying doctor service in Queensland. He also trained in Internal Medicine and Oncology in Brisbane and Sydney. Having developed an interest in how viruses caused cancer, he commenced an MD with Professor Robin Weiss, FRS at the Institute of Cancer Research and Royal Marsden Hospital.

Following five years as a clinical scientist at the MRC's clinical research centre in Northwick Park, Professor Dalgleish was appointed to the Foundation Chair in Oncology at the St George's University of London in 1991. There his main interest has been the immunology of cancer and the development of immunotherapies to treat, in particular, melanoma. He is a co-founder of Onyvax, a company set up in 1998 to make novel vaccines for common solid tumours, where he is currently Research Director.

Professor Dalgleish currently sits on eight editorial boards and is the author or co-author of peer-reviewed scientific papers and over 70 chapters in medical books. He is the co-editor of five medical books and has been on numerous grant committees and is currently on the European Commission Cancer Board.

Dr David Propper is a Consultant Medical Oncologist based at Barts and The London NHS Trust, with specialist interests in Breast, Colorectal (Large Bowel), Hepatobiliary, Oesophagus & Stomach oncology. Dr Ajay Mehta qualified from Guy's Hospital Medical School in 1992. He trained in Oncology at St Bartholemew's, Hammersmith, Mount Vernon and the Royal Marsden Hospitals. Hani Gabra is Professor of Medical Oncology at Imperial College London, based at its Hammersmith Campus. His clinical work in conducted at a number of sites including the Hammersmith Hospital and the Queen Charlotte Hospital for Women. He specialises in gynaecological and upper gastrointestinal cancers.

After studying medicine at the University of Glasgow, he completed his MSc in Clinical Oncology and a PhD in Molecular Oncology at the University of Edinburgh. He then went on to complete specialist training in Cancer Medicine and was a Clinical Scientist and Consultant Medical Oncologist at the CRUK Edinburgh Medical Oncology Unit from 1998-2003. He then moved to London to take up his post at Imperial College.

Professor Gabra is actively involved in clinical research in ovarian cancer and tumour suppressor genes. He is Director of the Ovarian Cancer Action (HHMT) research Unit, a core funded research unit based at Imperial College London. He is also Chief of Service of the West London Gynaecological Cancer Centre and Head of the Section of Molecular Therapeutics in the Department of Oncology at Imperial College.
