Mr Jonathan Bird is a London orthopaedic surgeon with a special interest in knee surgery. While studying at the UCL School of Medicine, where he eventually qualified from, Mr Bird joined the British Army. It was here that he saw firsthand the highest quality of medicine given to our military. He eventually qualified from UCL in 1997, and continued to serve until 2004, gaining experience while treating both soldiers and Iraqi civilians hurt by the conflict.

After leaving the army in 2004, Jonathan had more specialized orthopaedic training in London before taking his current NHS post at University Hospital Lewisham. It is also here that he is the premier knee surgeon and initiated the Acute Knee Service. At the same time, he also leads the undergraduate medical students at King’s College.

Mr. Bird is still always striving to improve his orthopaedic practice, going to conferences and learning the latest therapies and techniques for his clients. He can treat the knee injuries of elite athletes as well as someone suffering daily pain from arthritis. He’s always trying to give his patients the best care and improve their quality of life.

These travels have included, both specialist fellowship training and charitable work. In 2008 Mr Ajuied worked in South Africa (University Hospital of Witwaterstrand, Johannesburg), where he held an appointment as an Honorary Consultant. While in South Africa Mr Ajuied established a new dedicated Knee injury Service which continues to serve the local community, and with which he still has strong links, and continues to grow from strength to strength.

During his time specialising in Knee surgery, Mr Ajuied has studied with and trained with experts in the world of Knee Surgery, including Dr Ponky Firer (Johanesburg), Dr David Dalury (Baltimore), Dr Charles Brown (Boston), and Dr Spike Erasmus (Cape Town).

While in clinical practice Mr Ajuied has developed a number of care innovations, including new surgical techniques, devices and rapid rehabilitation programmes for patients undergoing knee surgery.

Mr Ajuied also lectures and instructs nationally and internationally on topics relating to Knee surgery.

Mr Spicer has a keen interest in research and education. He has published extensively in his area of expertise. He is a trainer on both the Imperial College Undergraduate and Postgraduate Orthopaedic Training Programmes, and an Honorary Senior Lecturer and Honorary Clinical Anatomist at Imperial College. Mr Ian McDermott is a Consultant Knee Surgeon specialising in orthopaedic surgery as well as Honorary Professor Associate at Brunel University London. McDermott graduated with MBBS from Saint Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School in 1992. He attended his postgraduate training across the UK including Oxford and Nottingham. Mr McDermott eventually was appointed as a Consultant in Orthopaedic department at Ealing Hospital in 2005. Later, Ian left the NHS to focus practicing Orthopaedics in a private sector.

Mr McDermott has strong interest in academia proven by being awarded the British Association for Surgery of the Knee (BASK) President’s Medal by Mr. Malcolm Glasgow for his research into biomechanics underlying meniscal repair. Ian also was awarded a Master of Surgery Higher Degree from Imperial College London in 2004 for his outstanding thesis on the Biomechanics of Human Meniscal Transplantation and appointed as an Honorary Professor Associate at Brunel University London for Sports Sciences.
