Mr Shelain Patel is an orthopaedic foot and ankle surgeon based at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and University College London Hospital. He specialises in a number of areas inclusive of ankle arthritis and deformity, ankle arthroscopy, ankle replacements, bunions and toe disorders, flat feet, osteochondral/cartilage defects, and tendon disorders.

He earned his medical qualification from the University College London Medical School before completing his basic surgical training in London. He then went on to become a clinical research fellow at University College Hospital and later began his orthopaedic training on the UCLH and Middlesex Hospital programme. Following that, he completed renowned foot and ankle fellowships in Windsor and the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital. He was also awarded the BOSTAA fellowship to visit centres of excellence in the United States and Holland and was sponsored by BOFAS to participate in the BOA Clinical Leaders Programme.

Mr Patel has always been involved with research and has authored numerous publications in journals and books. He is currently research novel assessment and treatment methods for foot and ankle conditions at the Institute of Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Science based at RNOH.

Outside of work, Mr Patel enjoys relaxing by visiting restaurants and trying new cuisines. He is also a sports fan and plays five-a-side football and follows Arsenal Football Club.

Consultant orthopaedic surgeon, Mr Henry Colaço, is a founding member of the Shoulder Practice and The London Shoulder Meeting and the Clinical Lead for Upper Limb Surgery at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He specialises in reconstructive and sports shoulder and elbow surgery, as well as complex upper limb trauma (including the hand and wrist).

Mr Colaço has experience of treating high-profile people including actresses, musicians, and professional sportsmen. He takes a patient-centred approach to care, tailoring his treatments (both surgical and non-surgical) to each individual. Where surgery is required, he uses cutting-edge procedures and uses minimally invasive techniques wherever possible to obtain the best outcomes and a faster recovery time. Mr Colaço has a particular interest in finding new reconstructive arthroscopic (keyhole) surgical procedures for the treatment of bone loss in shoulder instability, irreversible rotator cuff rips, and biceps tendon injuries. He is actively involved in research and is the principal investigator for a trial of a single use micro-arthroscopic camera.

Mr Colaço completed his surgical and orthopaedic training at London teaching hospitals after graduating with Distinction from Imperial College School of Medicine. He also completed fellowships in shoulder and elbow surgery and complex upper limb surgery and was awarded the renowned BESS Travelling Fellowship, which he completed in Paris and Lyon.

Mr Alistair Hunter is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Hand Surgeon at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. He qualified from Cambridge University and University College London Medical School and completed his core surgical training at St. Thomas’ Hospital, London obtaining his MRCS in 2006. He then undertook specialist training in on the North Western and Middlesex/University College Hospital rotations and was awarded FRCS in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery in 2013. Mr Hunter is an expert in all hand and wrist conditions. He manages common and complex conditions of the hand, wrist and elbow, and complex hand and upper limb injuries. He has wide experience in minimally invasive techniques in hand and wrist surgery.

Prof Ranaganthan was later awarded his doctorate by the University of Nottingham in spinal surgery for his research at the Sir Peter Mansfield Centre. He has since become an Honorary Professor of Orthopaedic and spine surgery at Bhopal University, India and Bach Mai University Hospital, Vietnam. Prof Ranaganthan is also the youngest recipient of the ISSLS prize for the best International Spinal Research in 2004 and 2009 and has also received the Spine Society of Australia award.
