Mr Chris Young qualified in 1980 from Sheffield University Medical School. His cardiothoracic training was undertaken at St Bartholomew's Hospital, St Thomas Hospital, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children, and Queen Elizabeth in Birmingham. He undertook two years of research at the Rayne Institute, St Thomas' as a BHF Junior Research Fellow, being awarded an MD for studies in myocardial protection.

Mr Young's areas of specialist surgical expertise include all aspects of surgery of the aortic valve; including homograft insertion, aortic valve repair, and valve-sparing techniques, keyhole surgery, aortic root replacement, and transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). St Thomas' has a large experience of this new valve technique and Mr Young is one of only two surgeons involved in the program. He has pioneered the introduction of TAVI at London Bridge Hospital.

His other area of specialist interest is in surgery for thoracic aortic aneurysm disease; including aortic dissection, aortic arch replacement, hybrid vascular procedures, and endovascular stenting. Chris monitors patients long-term in aortic surveillance clinics. Chris is the head of the thoracic aortic vascular program at St Thomas’ Hospital.
