Mr Ahmed, Consultant in Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery currently works within the Imperial Weight Centre bariatric surgery unit in London. He is highly specialised in weight loss surgery (bariatric) and minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic). In particular he is highly skilled in the minilap surgical technique which results in minimal scarring. He focuses on the pre- and postoperative care of his patients to ensure the best outcome and optimise recovery.

Mr Ahmed specialised in general and upper gastrointestinal surgery in both the UK and in the USA (Stanford and Rochester). During his training he undertook a research degree into the mechanisms of complications of gastric bypass surgery, and was awarded a PhD by Imperial College London for his work. He has over a 99% success rate in preventing open surgery during his laparoscopic procedures. Over his career he has performed over 5000 laparoscopic bariatric surgeries (2500 of which are gastric bypasses). He is so well-respected in his field that he receives referrals from across the UK and abroad. He is regularly consulted for his opinion and feedback on highly complex bariatric cases. He imparts his expansive knowledge by training fellow surgeons in bariatric surgery and is involved with many professional courses on bariatric surgery. He is also a clinical senior lecturer for Imperial College London.

His Imperial Weight Centre bariatric surgery unit has been appointed as an International Centre of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery. He also sits on the highly prestigious International Bariatric Surgery Review Committee (IBSRC), which acknowledges his vast experience allowing him to evaluate bariatric surgery units globally. Additionally, he sits on the council of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society, and the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
